Global Environmental Conservation



Not only do we work to reduce the environmental burden in our production activities, the products we deliver to our customers serve to help improve the environment on their sites, and minimize the impact on the environment at the end of the product’s life. This is the kind of product development and technology development we strive for. We also implement environmentally-friendly ideas in our facilities, aiming for ecological specifications throughout all our buildings so that customers who visit our company recognize once again the importance of the environment protection.
 

Development Policy

Product Development Activities Based on the Concept of "Saving"


Since establishing our product development policy in 1978, the basic development concept of the IDEC Group has been to achieve the optimal control based on “saving.” With SAVE ALL set as our slogan in 1982, we have committed ourselves to introduce our customers to the “saving” concepts, which includes energy-saving, space-saving, maintenance-saving, and resource-saving. Our commitment to this activity remains strong to this day, and we are engaged in the development of new environmentally-friendly products developed with our original review standards.
 



Environmental Labels


Issues are extracted to reduce environmental burdens at the stage of planning product development, and original standards of environmental consideration are set including resource-saving and space-saving. As a symbol mark of environmentally-friendly products evaluated and determined based on those standards, IDEC designed an environmental label with the arrangement of SAVE ALL mark creating in 1980’s.
Posting the label on the website and catalogues will be promoted for customers’ easy recognition.

LF3D LED Lighting

IDEC developed a LED lighting suitable for use in machine tools, realizing excellent robust construction and optical performance (reduces multiple shadows and reflection from light source). LF3D has a structure in consideration of replacing from conventional products as well as contributes to the reduction of environmental burdens. The equipment of glare mode enables to reduce glare, and decrease power consumption to 40%.

PS3V Switching Power Supplies

PS3V is a compact and reliable power supplies that allows flexible installation mounting in four directions. The compact design contributes to downsizing of boards and equipment. The push-in connection terminal is added to lineups of screw terminals, which contributes to the reduction of man-hour for wire works.

Push-in connection φ22 Switches & Pilot Light

IDEC provides the lineup for push-in connection types with simple wiring for greater work efficiency compared to the conventional screw terminal in addition to reliability (stays firmly in place) and easiness. Angled connections and contact block depth reduced contribute to saving space inside panel and enabling downsizing of equipment.

KW2D Series φ22 Smart RFID Reader

KW2D has a compact and smart design ideal for factory automation environments, and it can be mounted on φ22mm panel cut-out. Data can be recorded as electronic data by combining with a touch panel, which contributes to saving resources such as paperless.

COOL BIZ

"COOL BIZ" is a national campaign by the Ministry of the Environment (hereinafter “MOE“) to encourage people to dress more casually without a tie and a jacket so that they can work comfortably in the offices where thermostats are set at around 28 degrees C. MOE started the "COOL BIZ" campaign in 2005. IDEC has promoted "COOL BIZ" in offices every year since 2005.

Environmental Facilities


We strive to reduce the environmental impact by our office facilities and equipment through environmentally conscious design.
 

Well-being Center at the head office

Green walls are installed on the 3rd floor of the well-being center (north, west and south sides) built in June 2019 at the head office. It has an energy-saving effect by suppressing the rise in the surface temperature of the building, and is also expected to reduce CO2 by photosynthesis of plants. Currently, the ivy is growing and about 150 square meters will be covered with it.

Courtyard at the head office

In June 2018, the courtyard of the head office was renovated and more than 30 types of trees including trees native to Japan were planted. Lowering the surrounding temperature is expected by greening.

Technology Research Center at the head office

The technology research center was built in 2013 and is designed for energy saving. LED lighting is installed in the entire building. It also has a rooftop garden, and is equipped with various environmentally friendly equipment such as a natural ventilation system and vertical movable blinds against afternoon sun.

Amagasaki Plant in Amagasaki City, Hyogo Prefecture

1,192 solar panels are installed at the Amagasaki plant built in July 2013. (Generation scale: 296kW)

Assembly Center in Tatsuno City, Hyogo Prefecture

200 solar panels are installed at the Assembly center built in May 2019. (Generation scale: 65kW)

IDEC FACTORY SOLUTIONS CORPORATION in Ichinomiya City, Aichi Prefecture

The new factory, which started operation in April 2021, has 202 solar panels on its rooftop capable of generating approximately 86,000kW per year as an initiative to reduce environmental impact. The new factory will be able to cover 45-50% of its electricity usage with its own power generation.

IDEC CORPORATION (U.S.)

At IDEC CORPORATION (U.S.), solar panels were installed on the office rooftop in 2008, and LED lighting was installed throughout the office in 2018. We strive to reduce CO2 through energy-saving measures include switching to more efficient air conditioners that standardize the office temperature by regulating the effects of air flow and sunlight.

APEM Inc (California, U.S.)

At a group company APEM Inc, 900 solar panels were installed on the office rooftop in 2019.

Biodiversity


The IDEC Group is working to conserve biodiversity through a wide range of activities, based on the idea that various environmental efforts can contribute to biodiversity.

■Use of FSC® Certified Paper (Forest Certification)


FSC® certification system (Forest certification system) is an international certification system that uses strict global standards to assess whether forests are managed in an ecosystem-friendly manner to protect the forest environment and whether wood produced from well-managed forests is used as raw material. It is operated by FSC, Forest Stewardship Council. The IDEC Report (annual report) and the notice of the general meeting of shareholders are printed on FSC® certified paper.

■Use of Vegetable Oil Ink


Vegetable oil inks are inks made from plant-derived oils such as recyclable soybean oil, flaxseed oil, tung oil, coconut oil, palm oil, and recycled plant-derived oils from waste edible oils.
Vegetable oil inks are used to print the IDEC Report, the notice of the annual general meeting and the shareholder newsletter.

■Green Purchasing


Green purchasing means purchasing products and services that we consider the environment and the need, and select products that have as little impact on the environment as possible. IDEC promotes green purchasing of copy paper, stationery, office supplies, and other office consumables.

■Use of Recycled Paper


Documents are basically stored as electronic files. Recycled paper is used for printing and backing paper is recommended. After use, the paper is sorted and handed to a recycling company to be used as raw material for recycled paper.

■Provide Rainforest Alliance Certified Coffee


The Rainforest Alliance is an international non-profit organization dedicated to the conservation of biodiversity and the promotion of the rights and well-being of workers, their families and local residents. The cafeteria at our headquarters offers free drinks, and serve coffee to our employees using coffee beans of farms which meet sustainability standards and certified by Rainforest Alliance.

■No Plastic Bottle Challenge


Microplastic pollution in oceans has a serious impact on the ecosystem. Under the title of the "No Plastic Bottle Challenge", IDEC has stopped selling plastic bottled beverages in vending machines at its major sites and encourages employees to use their own bottles. IDEC also participates in the "Plastic Smart" campaign promoted by the Ministry of the Environment and displays posters to raise awareness of the issue of marine plastic waste.
