Switches

Safety and ease of use were of paramount concern in the development of this line of switches, as evidenced by the simple mounting procedure, mechanically keyed safety lever lock (to prevent contact separation in heavy vibration applications), and wide variety of Emergency Stop models (all of which meet EN418).
Unique to the HW series is the HW Unibody E-Stop, which features one piece construction that prevents tampering or incorrect mounting from hindering the functionality of the switch. Another first is the spring loaded captive screw terminals, which make ring terminal wiring easier than ever before.
The A6 series of pushbuttons and pilot devices offer a very competitive price and simple construction in a space saving package.
Features include snap action, double throw contacts, with gold plating for reliable low level switching. Ideal for such applications as PLC inputs, logic level switching, or anywhere space is at a premium.
Offered in three styles (round, square, or rectangular), all units are terminated via .110 quick connect / solder tabs. LED illumination includes a built-in current limiting resistor, and gasketed lenses provide an IP65 watertight / oiltight panel seal. Models include illuminated and non-illuminated pushbuttons, pilot lights, selectors, key switches.
Contacts are slow make, double break with a self-cleaning action that produces a wide switching range (from 5mA to 10A). Several screw terminal styles are available from the standard exposed full size M3.5 screw to a fingersafe (IP20) screw terminal (contacts are interchangeable with the HW series). Models include illuminated or non-illuminated pushbuttons, pilot lights, selectors, key switches, and Emergency Stop switches.
Conventional E-Stop switches are designed with spring pressure on the Normally Closed (NC) contacts, keeping them in the closed position and allowing the machine to operate. Improper installation or excessive force to the stop button in an emergency may break or dislodge a vital part, causing the spring loaded contact to stay closed. This situation renders the E-Stop incapable of stopping the machine and can lead to catastrophic events, personal injury and possible loss of life.
This one-of-a-kind safe break action design, found only in the IDEC XA and XW series, reverses the energy direction and uses the spring-pressure to assure that the NC contacts will open if the emergency switch is damaged or the contact blocks separate due to excessive force. The NC contacts will reliably open, even if they are welded, and stop the machine.
Both the XA and XW series switches offer up to four safe-break contacts with a depth behind the panel that is half the size of conventional E-Stop switches. This means that there is an additional contact available and the switches can be used in Level 4 safety category applications.
These new E-Stop switches (XA and XW) are secured from the rear of the control panel so that the E-Stop cannot be removed from the front. Another unique feature of the XA and XW E-Stop switches is that either a push-turn or push-pull reset method can be used to reset the switches. This eliminates any possible confusion for operators when resetting the switch. The durability and quality of these new E-Stop switches make them extremely reliable. They can withstand the highest stress caused by panic or a reaction to an emergency situation.
Utilizing our unique Reverse Energy Structure, new X6 emergency stop switches are the latest in safety innovation wrapped in a sleek, miniature package.
This smooth design is ideal for applications requiring cleanliness, such as food processing machines, medical equipment and semiconductor equipment. Manufactured to prevent dust build up and make cleaning simple, this sleek switch is both hygienic and visually appealing.
The unibody design is efficient and elegant, extending only 23.9mm behind the panel compared with conventional e-stops which average 27.9mm! By reducing the depth and volume, these e-stops keep equipment and control panels compact yet safe.
X6 Emergency Stop switches also include IDEC’s innovative “Safe Break Action” design, which uses a safety mechanism to ensure that the NC contacts will open if the emergency switch is damaged; the NC contacts will reliably open, even if they are welded, and stop the machine.
The X6 emergency stop switch can be reset either by pulling or turning, and the button is offered in 30mm and 40mm sizes. In addition to a red emergency button, a yellow button is also available as a stop switch, and all buttons are available with or without arrow markings.
X6 emergency stop switches are UL, c-UL recognized, and EN compliant.

New additions to the XW series include a smooth button, which resists dirt buildup and contamination, making it ideal for food, beverage, and pharmaceutical applications. And the attractive appearance and rugged construction make it suitable for a wide variety of commercial and industrial applications. These new models also include a green mechanical indicator, which allows an operator to view the status of the switch from a distance.

Features include our unique “Safe Break Action,” which ensures NC contacts will open if the contact block is damaged or separated from the operator due to excessive force. Direct Opening Action ensures that even if the contacts are welded, the force applied on the button will directly open the contact. And a Safety Interlock Mechanism keeps contacts open when the operator is locked.
Inspired by the lockout concept, the new XN series of padlock-type E-stops were developed to prevent unauthorized or accidental resetting of latched emergency stop switches, by allowing the use of up to 20 personal padlocks*. XN1E series E-stops save space behind the panel with depths of only 47.7mm for up to four contacts. And XN5E series E-stops only extend 21mm from the front of the panel, ideal for applications needing a low-profile design.
Compact and smart design ideal for factory automation environments
KW2D series smart RFID increases tracking, security, access levels, and productivity of applications. Built for easy integration into industrial systems, this RFID device lets OEM and end users implement secure equipment identification, access control, and traceability.
The built-in Ethernet port that facilitates quick connectivity to host devices like PLCs and HMIs using Modbus TCP. A built-in LED and auxiliary buzzer provide feedback on operation status. KW2D readers operate at standard 13.56MHz high frequency, providing a reading distance of up to 15mm depending on the tag style.
KW2D series supports 3rd party RFID tags if the tags are operated at 13.56 MHz and rated Type A, Type F or Type V standard. Although KW2D works with various RFID tag formats, IDEC-supplied color-coded key fob or card-style tags include enhanced encryption compared with other tag types.
